Property Policy

Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes accepts gifts of property through outright gifts, bequests or life estates.  We do not accept timeshares. 

Gifts of Property 

  1. Property must be inspected and approved by the Director of Development or his/her representative.
  2. Additional environmental tests or surveys may be required at the Donor’s expense.
  3. If Donor(s) is/are making a life estate gift he/she/they will be responsible for all maintenance expenses, taxes and other expenses for the property. Also, the donor will need to carry adequate liablity insurance on the contracted property.
  4. All appraisals will be the responsibility of the donor.
  5. Life estate contract attorney fees are the responsibility of the Donor.
  6. Any outright property gift attorney fees are the responsibility of Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes.
  7. Any annual taxes associated with an outright property are the responsbility of the Donor in the year of the donation.
  8. Donor(s) will be provided with a copy of this policy and expected to sign and agree to the policy before any action is taken by Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes. 

Any of these requirements can be exempted or modified by the Executive Director.
